Tubac Real Estate

Established in 1752 as a Spanish Fort, Tubac's roots go back to the beginning of civilization. First to inhabit the area were elephant hunters who hunted Mammoths. Then came the Hohokam and Pima Indians, and then the Spanish Jesuits, who built the fort and started the mission whose grounds are now surrounded by over 90 artisans shops and boutiques. Eventually the Spanish left on what is known as the Captain Juan Bautista de Anza trail, traveling over 1,200 miles on the first trail to connect San Fransisco to New Spain. The entire story of the area can be learned about at Tubac Presidio State Historic Park.

Today, Tubac is a haven for ranchers, artists, retirees and tourists. Because of the high desert vistas that surround the area, Tubac stays much cooler than Tucson or Phoenix. However, the high season for tourism here is still the winter, especially February, when Tubac hosts their annual Arts Festival.

The land around Tubac is rural and sold mostly in large parcels, attracting ranchers and farmers to the area, as well as those who just want their own plot of land. As a result, there are few tract developments, and mostly custom homes and acreages in the form of huge ranches for sale. Existing developments specialize in large homesites on large lots, both in new and resale homes. Students in this area attend Sahuarita Unified School district.

There is plenty to do in Tubac, especially in the winter months. There are over 90 shops in the main plaza, as well as many local restaurants and bed and breakfasts. For history buffs, there's no shortage of historical parks and museums, such as Tumacacori National Historical Park, the Titan Missile Museum, and the Presidio State Historic Park. You can also visit the Asarco Mineral Discovery Center, the Fred Whipple Observatory, Madera Canyon, the Coronado National Forest and Pena Blanca Lake.
