Cortaro Farms, AZ Real Estate

The Cortaro Farms area runs along Cortaro road from I-10 to Thornydale, just south of Marana. The area used to be farmland, as the name implies, and has been sold off parcel by parcel to developers, although some ranchland does still exist. Today development is just heating up as more strip centers and neighborhoods are built.

Cortaro Farms is mainly populated by single-family homes, although there are some condo and rental-only developments. There are still some acreages amongst the new development. For the most part, the homes are either Spanish-style stuccos with rock yards or more traditional brick ranch homes. The area is made up mostly of young families, and many amenities in the area, such as shops and restaurants are just starting to spring up.

Since the area is so newly developed, most people go in to Tucson for entertainment venues. Cortaro Farms is close to the Sports Park complex, which hosts a variety of amateur sports leagues, and Breakers, Tucson's largest waterpark. It's also within a 20-minute drive of the Tucson Mall and Catalina State Park, although they are in opposite directions on Oracle road, the main artery through Tucson. Just up the road on I-10 is also Picacho Peak State park. Because of the popularity of the area with young families, schools, childcare and grocery stores are well established in the area.

Students living in the Cortaro Farms area attend Marana Unified School District, which has about 13,000 students and nearly 2,000 staff and teachers. The school district has three schools that have been named National Blue-Ribbon schools, and eight teachers that have made it to the top ten for Arizona Teacher of the Year.

The local CBS station affiliate as well as other print and radio outlets are located in the area, signaling the direction of expansion in Southern Arizona. In the next few decades, expansion north from Tucson and south from Phoenix are eventually expected to collide, making the area one huge metropolis, and putting Cortaro Farms right in the middle of it all.
